I’m a people person. Good communication and creating emotional connections light me up and so I have made them a fundamental part of how I work. I won’t just come in, write some copy and be gone again – I get to know you, I push you on why and how you do things and I’m always questioning if there are better ways to achieve your aims. This is why I love working with female founders of small businesses: finding your voice and developing effective storytelling through creative content can make a huge difference to your connection with your ideal customer.
I’ve always been surrounded by words! Growing up, our house was full of books and I set my sights on a career in publishing from an early age. A stint in PR straight out of university was followed by a brilliant couple of years in Australia, exploring and working all over the country. When I came home, it was with a job – as half of the new UK arm of an Australian publisher. I spent the next eight years working with authors on telling their stories and then marketing them to readers – when I left, I was the commissioning editor running the fiction list of a flourishing independent publisher.
The idea for Made Simple by Sam was born not long after my daughter. I realised that I wanted to have more control over how and when I was working so I could be around more as a mum. Now, I get to work with clients whose purpose I find myself aligned with and experience zero guilt at sneaking off to read books with my little girl!
